Casio Computer Company was founded in 1946 by Tadao Kashio who was an engineer specializing in fabrication technology. The headquarters are located in Tokyo, Japan, and the company is known for developing high-quality calculators, cameras, audio equipment, and watches. In 1974, Casio released the first wristwatch with a digital display. This line of watches were called CASIOTRON.
The 1980s marked an innovative time in the watch manufacturer’s history. Casio launched a digital wristwatch with a built in calculator in 1981. In 1982, Casio invented and released the first digital wristwatch that included a combination digital-analog. Casio introduced an intelligent, multifunctional, durable, and shock resistant wristwatch in 1983. This was the first watch released in the G-SHOCK series. This line of watches were manufactured to be mud, dust, water, and magnetic resistant. In 1987, the use of solar power sparked Casio to launch the AL-180. This watch did not require battery changes because it was powered through solar energy.
Casio released the first digital wristwatch with a touch screen in 1991. The Databank timepiece allows users to access a personal organizer, a telephone book, a notepad, and an 8 digit calculator. In 1994, Casio launched the innovative CMD-40. This wristwatch enabled users to control televisions, stereo devices, and video players.
Casio released their first series of wristwatches exclusively for ladies, which is known as the Baby-G series in 1997. With the same durability as the famous G-SHOCK, the BG-320-2V wristwatch provided the same multifunctional features as the men’s series.
Casio released a specialized wristwatch for those who love outdoor activities in 1998. From the Pro Trek series, the PRT-40 provides specialized outdoor functions. This watch provides an altimeter, compass, barometer, and thermometer.
In 1999, Casio invented and launched the first PC-wristwatch on the market called the PC-Unite. The HBX-100B combines the functions of a Filofax, a PC, and a databank. This watch was considered a technical masterpiece of its era.
Casio created and manufactured the first wristwatch with a digital camera in 2000. The Wrist Camera weighs only 32 grams and includes a veritable integrated digital camera for users to enjoy. The same year Casio released another innovative creation called the Wrist Audio Player, which was the first wristwatch to include a MP3 player in the timepiece.
From the G-SHOCK series, Casio released “The G” model in 2003. This watch included Casio’s Tough Solar System design, which did not require the timepiece to run off of battery power. The G-SHOCK is radio controlled, and it was described by Casio as indestructible due to the G-SHOCK casing.
In 2004, Casio launched its flattest radio wristwatch. The WVH-430DE-1AER includes highly technical functions in a very small space. The following year, in 2005, Casio launched the WVA-430-DE. This highly technical timepiece includes a stop watch, worldwide time display, and accurately displays time through radio signals.
Casio introduced the PRO TREK PRW-1300-7VER in 2007. This watch is only 97 grams in weight and is only 11.6 millimeters thick. This model comes with an altimeter, a barometer, and a digital compass. This timepiece is also watertight and comes equipped with a Multiband 5 radio signal receiver.
In 2008, Casio launched the Baby-G MSC-301C for women. This watch was specifically designed for younger women, but the timepiece still maintained the durable design. The watch also included a rhinestone index and a stopwatch.
From the G-SHOCK series, Casio released GW-3000BD-1AER in 2010, which was designed for aviation pilots. This timepiece is structured to resist the gravitational shock of rapidly dropping forces. This model is also waterproof and provides accurate time through solar power and the Multiband 6 radio signal receiver.
In 2012, Casio launched a timepiece from the G-SHOCK series that enables users to access their smartphone through Bluetooth Smartphone technology, which notifies users when they receive emails or phone calls. Casio announced on September 5, 2014 that the EDIFICE series of metal watches includes an updated Smartphone link with faster world time functions.
