Desco von Schulthess AS founded the Maurice Lacroix watch company in 1975. One year later, Maurice Lacroix was introduced to the Spanish market. By 1980, the watch company established its own business in Germany. The watch firm had a benchmark year in 1989 when they purchased the watch case maker known as Queloz S.A. This acquisition enabled Maurice Lacroix the ability to manufacture all of its watch cases in-house, which was unique for a luxury watch company.

In 2002, Maurice Lacroix became an independent watch manufacturer and was no longer a division of Desco von Schulthess. Since 2006, Maurice Lacroix has produced intricate movement parts for mechanical calibers in its primary workshop near Saignelegier. 2008 was the year the watch manufacturer presented the Grand Complication. The Grand Complication included the ML 106 movement, which was an innovative chronograph caliber.

The entire collection of mechanical watches offered by Maurice Lacroix feature its own manufactured movements or modern calibers, which are all produced in Switzerland. The watch company also uses traditional timepiece movements in special edition watch models.
